Braille Transcription Services

Professional braille transcription for schools, publishers, and businesses

From a single worksheet to a full multi-volume textbook, Quality Braille Transcriptions produces BANA-compliant braille that's reviewed by a certified transcriber before it ever leaves the shop.

What we transcribe

If it's printed, scanned, written, or technical — we transcribe it. Every project is matched to the right braille code and formatted to professional standards.

Books & textbooks

K-12 and higher-ed textbooks, novels, study guides, and supplemental materials. Multi-volume projects split automatically by page-count bounds.

Documents & manuals

Training manuals, employee handbooks, legal documents, government forms, and operating instructions. Delivered ready for emboss or as production BRF.

Tests & worksheets

Classroom worksheets, standardized tests, and IEP-aligned materials transcribed with accurate formatting for tactile readability.

Technical & STEM

Mathematics, chemistry, physics, and computer science transcribed in Nemeth with UEB, or UEB Technical — your choice per book.

Codes we specialize in

  • UEB Literary — the standard for books, fiction, and most general documents in the United States.
  • UEB Technical — mathematical and scientific notation in fully UEB-compatible form.
  • UEB with Nemeth — UEB context with Nemeth Code math, the most common choice for U.S. STEM classrooms.
  • Foreign Language — including Spanish, French, and other languages with their respective braille codes.

How it works

  1. You send your files. Any format — PDF (including scanned), Word, EPUB, NIMAS, image. We OCR scanned content as needed.
  2. We scope and quote. Within one business day you get a quote with pricing and a target completion date.
  3. We transcribe and review. A certified transcriber produces the braille file, then a second pass checks formatting, contractions, and tactile readability.
  4. You receive the file. Production-ready BRF for embossing, or hard-copy embossed braille shipped on quality braille paper.

Frequently asked questions

What is braille transcription?

Converting print materials into braille that meets professional standards. In the U.S. that means BANA-compliant formatting, the correct code (UEB, Nemeth, or UEB Technical), and tactile-readability review by a certified transcriber before delivery.

How long does a project take?

It depends on length, complexity, and code. A short document is a few days; a complex math textbook can be months. Rush projects are available for IEP, classroom, and business deadlines — reach out with your timeline and we'll let you know what's possible.

What braille codes do you transcribe?

UEB literary, UEB Technical, UEB with Nemeth for mathematics, and foreign-language braille. Every code is produced by a certified transcriber and follows BANA formatting guidelines.

Do you only work with schools?

No. K–12 and higher-ed accessibility offices, publishers, state resource centers, government agencies, and private businesses all rely on QBT for accessible documents, training materials, signage, and more.

What file formats do you accept?

PDF (including scanned), Word, plain text, EPUB, NIMAS files, and image files. We OCR scanned documents before transcription so even non-searchable PDFs work fine.
